By, Tom Dinwoodie and Valerie Adame
Audrey sits down with two Audrey’s Little Farm Academy members, Valerie (southeast Texas) and Tom (Central Valley, California), for a practical “real gardener” roundtable on what’s working right now in challenging climates.
They cover how to tell the difference between heat stress and true thirst (check plants again in the evening before watering), how and why to use shade cloth (best percentages, black vs. white, how to hang it, and wind considerations), and how shade can actually improve production for certain crops like peppers, determinant tomatoes, and even squash.
They also talk about gardening smarter by choosing varieties suited to your region and microclimate, spacing plants correctly, using interplanting intentionally, and keeping simple records (photos, weather notes, and a labeling system for seed packets and starts) so you can repeat what works and stop wasting time on what doesn’t.
